What if I told you that in as little as five years, movie theaters and screens, in general, could become a thing of the past thanks to Virtual Reality (VR) which has been making heavy inroads into the entertainment scene. In the past few years, we have seen the release of several VR systems including the Playstation VR set and Oculus Quest 2 VR kit. With these, people can play compatible games, watch programs, or even visit virtual worlds.

What exactly can you do with VR? The Oculus system connects users to Facebook via the “metaverse,” which is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection allowing you to socialize with any friends that have the VR console as well. There are also several fitness programs that you can download with live instructors to start on fitness endeavors. And, of course, there are many  live-action, first-person games available to owners as well. Lastly, The metaverse aspect allows you to bring virtual socialization to a whole other level by meeting  in the virtual world with friends and doing activities like playing games and watching movies together.

Jeffrey Vo, a senior business management major at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) says purchasing his oculus system is a choice he does not regret. He said VR systems are much more versatile than regular consoles and that he discovers new things on his  every day, for instance, being able to go to a virtual theme park and ride on roller coasters. “Honestly, I hardly touch my consoles anymore. The Oculus really changed the game for me.”

With all these capabilities, VR is revolutionizing the way we as people entertain ourselves and interact with one another. Therefore, don’t be surprised if a system ends up in every household in the country in the coming years.
