Celebrating Excellence: UDC Honors Convocation Recognizes Academic High-Achievers
The University of the District of Columbia paused to celebrate its brightest academic minds during the 2026 university-wide student honors ceremony on April 22. Held in the heart of the Van Ness campus, the event served as a formal tribute to students who have maintained the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, and service across the university’s diverse disciplines.

From the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences to the College of Arts and Sciences, the room was filled with students donning the signature honor cords that signify months—and years—of tireless dedication. The ceremony recognized several tiers of academic achievement, including the Dean’s List, High Honors, and Highest Honors. A particularly poignant moment of the afternoon was the presentation of the “Top Student” awards, given to the individuals with the highest cumulative GPA within their respective majors.

The diversity of majors represented highlighted the breadth of talent at UDC. Digital media students stood alongside aspiring civil engineers and future nursing professionals, all united by a common drive for excellence. For many, like the recently recognized student leaders from the USGA and Royal Court, the ceremony was a validation of their ability to balance high-level campus involvement with rigorous academic demands.

To see these students excel while also giving back to the campus community is a testament to the Firebird spirit,” said Dr. Jeffery Fleming, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, during his remarks. “This ceremony isn’t just about grades; it’s about the discipline, resilience, and curiosity that will make these students leaders in their chosen fields.
As the event concluded with a reception for the honorees and their families, the sense of accomplishment was palpable. With the 2026 Commencement just 2 weeks away, the Honors Ceremony served as the perfect prelude to graduation, reminding the community that at UDC, hard work never goes unnoticed.
