MSNBC President Rashida Jones to deliver commencement keynote
The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) will hold its 47th annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in-person at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The keynote address will be given by Rashida Jones, President of MSNBC.
Jones took the helm of MSNBC in 2021, becoming the first Black woman to lead a news network. Under her leadership, MSNBC has further defined itself as the premier media channel for breaking news, award-winning journalism, in-depth analysis, and perspectives. She oversees all programming, editorial units, business development, and network technical operations. Before that, Ms. Jones served as Senior Vice President of NBC News and MSNBC, where she led MSNBC’s dayside and weekend programming and served as the executive producer of the two most-watched Democratic presidential debates in history. She is an award-winning journalist who earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Media-Arts Broadcast from Hampton University, where she has since launched a scholarship in her name for future journalists. The event is limited to graduating seniors and guests, along with faculty, administrators, and other invited community members. It is not open to the public. However, the ceremony also will be livestreamed for viewing by other students, family, friends, and the larger community who cannot attend.
